Is it just me, or is March going like, WAY faster than February? I didn’t even get a change to finish editing last week’s wrap-up before new big announcements were made, so here’s this week’s biggest stories!

When it comics to iconic comic series ladies, Betty and Veronica deserve as much respect as Wonder Woman or Black Widow. These two have been eternally locked in the love-triangle shadow of Riverdale’s red-headed relationship-phobic problem child. In this week’s Betty and Veronica Friends Forever, the duo finally stand up to Archie and quit his band, The Archies. Instead they’re forming their own girl-power group, Rock Candi, alongside new Riverdale student Jola Kitt. But a new band isn’t the only new thing in the girls’ lives- it looks like our favorite Girl Next Door has a new love interest! You can order Betty and Veronica Friends Forever: Rock and Roll here.

While The Expanse television adaption may have wrapped up after the series finale of season six, now available on Amazon Prime, fans of the comic source material and the adaption banded together to slam dunk Boom! Studios’s latest Kickstarter campaign to record-breaking numbers. Crowd Funding is becoming a more common way for creatives and publishers to find funding and handle pre-orders for their work, and the latest Boom! campaign for The Expanse: Dragon’s Tooth brought fans together to donate and preorder, setting records as one of the highest-funded comics projects for the publisher. The campaign ended this week at a total funding and pre-order value of over 1.4 million dollars. So far, that’s only been beaten by one other campaign by Boom!, Keanu Reeves’s BRZRKR in 2021. Boom! has said they’ll continue to utilize platforms like Kickstarter to offer preorders and exclusive editions, as it ensures the audience and sales before titles go to print.

Broadway has not been kind to the superhero adaptation, and Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark will go down in history as one of the most insane theatrical backstories Broadway’s ever seen. Now, Brian Micheal Bendis has announced he’ll be serializing his work on the show as their consultant following his run on Ultimate Spider-Man. His first autobiographical graphic novel called Fortune and Glory will be released in April by Dark Horse and follows his journey through making the Spider-Man films. But paid subscribers to his Substack space, Jinxworld will see weekly mini-issues of Fortune and Glory: The Musical, focusing on everything that went down during the production of Turn Off the Dark.

The Dawn of DC, the 2023 storytelling event from the entertainment company, released a new road map and updates on creative teams, the summer event, and a few hidden secrets for the rest of the event. May sees the release of two free comics setting up the Dawn of DC storyline and DC’s summer storytelling event, Knight Terrors. May 6th’s Free Comic Book day release from writer Joshua Williamson, and art by Howard Porter and Chris Bachalo, Dawn of DC Knight Terrors Free Comic Book Day Special Edition, follows Damian Wayne’s nightmares and sets up the Nightmare realm where DC’s Trinity of Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, alongside Deadman, and a collection of other DC Heroes and Villains face their biggest fears in Knight Terrors, the summer storyline miniseries event in July. In Dawn of DC Primer, available May 16th, Williamson teams up with artist Leandro Fernandez to reveal secrets, threats, and the connective stories of 2023’s Dawn of DC event and beyond.
To celebrate the 800th issue of The Flash and Wonder Woman, DC announced super-sized collectable issues coming out this summer before new creative teams take on the titles in the fall. The Flash will be headed by Simon Spurrier and Mike Deodato Jr. beginning in September with a “Cosmic Horror” take on Wally West’s Fastest Man alive. DC Favorite Tom King takes over writing responsibilities for Wonder Woman in September with art by Daniel Sampere, as Diana faces off against being framed and persecuted from American soil.

Finally, taking a quick peek at the road map, the tentacles along the bottom hold a striking resemblance to Brainiac, which would explain the sparking, or the Flash’s power. But we also know that Static Shock and Black Lighting are pretty electrifying too. There’s also a hidden image of DC fan-Favorite Detective Chip inspecting Dr. Fate’s helmet on the side under the Knight Terrors logo, hinting a return for these characters in a big way.

Today’s digital landscape means it’s easier to form false relationships with our favorite celebrities and influencers than ever before. The creative team behind Dracula, Motherf**ker, Alex de Campi and Erica Henderson, take on this phenomenon in Parasocial, an “exploitation thriller” that follows an actor whose spotlight is fading after his television show was canceled meets a crazed fan mid-pandemic. It’s sounding like Misery meets the SuperWhoLocked side of Tumblr obsession and I’ve gotta say- I think this is the most excited I’ve been for a new release graphic novel in a long time. Parasocial releases October 4th from Image Comics.

After images were leaked of Funk’s Soda Pop figurine of an unknown What If... character, Marvel’s gone ahead and given us our first look at Kahhori, season Two’s newest Superhero. After the tesseract lands in pre-colonized America, Kahhori finds herself on a journey to understand the power of the Space stone and protect the people of her tribe, inspired by the Akwesasne region in what is now upstate New York. Her episode will be in the Mohawk language, and her story has been developed alongside close collaboration with members of the Mohawk Nation for accuracy.

In the print side of the Marvel Universe, fellow Tesseract fan, Loki, finds himself at the center of another limited series releasing this June. This four-issue series from Dan Watters and Germán Peralta released the first look at an exclusive cover by Dustin Nguyen for Issue one as Loki embarks on a quest through the ten realms to retrieve weapons of his own creation. Loki #1 hits stands June 7th.
