Archie Comics kicks off the Halloween season with a special jumbo Sabrina issue. While it collects some classics, it also has a brand-new Sabrina story with an all-new character, Amber Nightstone. Nightstone is an evil witch, plotting to erase Sabrina from history. Sabrina #1 Anniversary Issue is on sale now!

Horror season continues with a new horror title announcement from Boom! Studios. From writer Sarah Gailey and artist Liana Kangas, Know Your Station takes on the final frontier and classism. Following the investigation of murders of the ultra-rich, who have escaped a dying Earth by moving to an ultra-expensive space station, this limited series focuses on the corruption of capitalism and space murders. What could be better?
Also, Pages and Panels is excited to offer one reader the opportunity to win Boom! Studios OGN, Hollow. Follow our Instagram, and comment on the post featuring Hollow for your chance to win a copy of the book and have your review featured on the site during The Long Halloween posts.

If the “Teenage Dirtbag” trend is as all over your feeds as it is mine, the announcement of a post-apocalyptic coming-of-age series from Dark Horse. In It’s Only A Teenage Wasteland, teen Javi throws a rager, just as society crumbles. Written by Curt Pines with art from Jacoby Salcedo, this new series seems to offer that life of no responsibilities teens-and adults- dream of, along with all the unintended consequences.

After quite some time and much drama, DC Comics announced the return of Kal-El to Earth in Action Comics #1050. Clark Kent and his son Jon have both been holding the title of Superman in the current comics continuity, but facing Lex Luthor is going to test everyone they know and love too. This jumbo issue has a ton of current Super-creative teams on board, like Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Mike Perkins, Tom Taylor, Clayton Henry, Joshua Williamson, and Nick Dragotta. Plus twenty-five variant covers will be released to celebrate this landmark number issue from some of the most iconic artists in comics, including Alex Ross and Jim Lee.

If you hop back to last year’s Halloween specials, I talked about Ice Cream Man as one of my top choices for unsettling comics horror. This week, Image announced that the creative team behind the freaky horror anthology is re-releasing their first work, titled Art Brut. W. Maxwell Prince and Martín Morazzo made this comic series about a mad painter keeping reality from crumbling. It was released as The Electric Sublime, but this remastering reclaims the original title and adds new lettering and editing as it addresses the fine line between comics and fine art.

This weekend, Marvel has a ton of announcements coming out thanks to the D23 line-up. If you’re in Anaheim, you can check out costumes, signings, panels, and more at the Marvel Booth. For those of us not there, Marvel has an exclusive online tour of the booth.

This week, creators of the webtoon LoveBot posted an open letter to Webtoons addressing the issues and lack of transparency regarding the creative and host dynamic. According to Chase and Miranda, creators on the site have a difficult time finding out their comic’s stats and performance. Since Webtoons is not responsible for promoting most of the comics on the site, smaller creators have a harder time building a following. Without these performance stats, it’s very difficult to measure and plan marketing strategies, which leaves these creatives at a loss.
In the few weeks since I’ve rebranded Pages and Panels, I know that looking at the site’s performance and the performance of the site’s social channels are huge factors in planning for the future. (I’m really putting that Master’s Degree to work!). I know what things are good signs of growth and I cannot imagine having to plan future marketing without having access to the site’s performance.
Luckily, Webtoons seems to have been responsive, and a meeting between the company and several different creators on the site is in the works. Here’s hoping that things are resolved and new transparency helps grow the platform and industry!
