If you’re one of the readers who have followed Pages and Panels from its very first steps as my personal blog, you may notice that things look very different. That’s because Pages and Panels and I, like every good comic brand, are undergoing a continuity reboot. Superboy Prime didn’t punch this one into existence. The pandemic did.
Back in 2018, I saw a posting for an Archive assistant internship with DC Comics. I’d been with Disney for a while, and had really started to come into my own comfort level as a die-hard comic nerd. And that posting read like my dream job.
Obviously, I didn’t get it.
Instead, it spurned me into going for my master’s and investigating different routes to incorporate my love of comics into my life as an arts and entertainment professional. It also reminded me of how very much I loved writing. So when the pandemic occurred and forced me into shifting gear professionally, I started blogging more frequently under the “Pages and Panels” tagline. And then my mother went “Why don’t you make Pages and Panels a thing and really focus on it?” And I realized just how very much I wanted to.
Joining into the comics fandom is incredibly overwhelming. There’s so much content to consume, and my goal is to use Pages and Panels as a solid jumping-off point for new fans, as a place where established fans can get recommendations and analysis, and as a sort of a comfortable friend to turn to. In every fandom, you’ll find negativity. But my goal here is to provide a place where that’s set aside for the study and fun of the comic art form.
Looking Ahead
Some of the exciting things planned for Pages and Panels are new features here on the site. Of course, some of the features will be months, others will be weekly, and some will be seasonal, but all are articles I’m very excited to share with all of you. Dream adaptation castings, light-hearted humor posts, and other fun features under The Funnies will be mixed with more serious reviews and analyses of writing, art, tropes, and concepts in The Editorials. We’ll see a return of the biggest news of the week with The Weekly Round-up. A new series of posts called The Primer is on the books to help soon-to-be fans understand the terminology of comics and a series of Shelf Spotlights to find their next favorite title. Comic and fandom merchandise will get their own moments of glory in the Merch Moment. The very best Halloween-themed and horror comic will be terrifying and delighting this fall when the Long Halloween series returns. Plus a series called Previous Issues will throwback to the comics that changed everything for me- and maybe for some guest authors too!
The Creative Team
One thing I love about comics is how they’ve established a community. And Pages and Panels is going to build off that community. Of course, comics and projects from the bigger brands will be featured here, but I also want to use this space as a platform to promote independent comic creatives. Writers, artists, small shops, and comic stores- if it relates to the comics community, I’d love to feature it.
If you have a project you’d like to see highlighted here, please use the contact form to get ahold of me so it can be featured. Please make sure your project includes enough content for a PG review, even if the project isn’t for younger viewers.
Thanks so much for undergoing this journey with me! I’m so excited to take this step and it wouldn’t be possible without you, the readers.
